Senior Helpers of Minneapolis - St. Paul Center of Excellence

This unique and innovative space is designed to support interactive training and education for professional caregivers, family caregivers, and healthcare professionals. Located within our Senior Helpers Minneapolis-St. Paul office, the Center of Excellence is built to mirror a client’s home, focusing on high-risk areas such as the living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. It offers a realistic, hands-on environment where essential caregiving skills can be practiced, helping participants build confidence and deliver compassionate, high-quality care.

A Personal Mission to Make a Difference

A Personal Mission to Make a Difference

Paul Barthol, owner of Senior Helpers Minneapolis-St. Paul, has a personal connection to caregiving. For the last 20 years, he has hired and trained caregivers to support his son, who lives with special needs. That experience gave him a deep understanding of what quality in-home care means for both individuals and their families.

When the opportunity came to become part of the Senior Helpers organization, Paul knew it was the right path. Helping older adults age safely at home aligned naturally with the caregiving values he had lived every day.

With a strong background in business operations and a passion for care, Paul has built a team that focuses on compassion, education, and trust. The Center of Excellence reflects that mission by helping caregivers grow and families feel supported.

Empowering Caregivers, Families, and the Community

The Center of Excellence is designed to strengthen care at every level. Caregivers thrive when given the right tools and training. That’s why the Center is open not only to our staff, but also to family members caring for loved ones and professionals who support the aging population.

Through hands-on learning, participants build skills in areas like safe transfers, fall prevention, and dementia care. Whether new to caregiving or looking to grow, this space provides the education and support needed to deliver confident, compassionate care.

Your Window Into Their World: The Virtual Dementia Tour

Your Window Into Their World: The Virtual Dementia Tour

The Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) is a powerful, hands-on experience that helps participants better understand the physical and cognitive challenges faced by those living with dementia. Created by geriatric specialist P.K. Beville, this scientifically backed method uses patented sensory tools to simulate the effects of dementia, building greater empathy and awareness.

At Senior Helpers Minneapolis-St. Paul, we are trained Virtual Dementia Tour Facilitators. This powerful learning tool is part of every caregiver orientation, and we also offer scheduled tours and training sessions for family caregivers, professionals, and others in the community who support individuals living with dementia.

The Virtual Dementia Tour, created by P.K. Beville, is a scientifically proven method of building a greater understanding of dementia through the use of patented sensory tools and instruction. Proceeds from the sale of the Virtual Dementia Tour support the work of Second Wind Dreams, an internationally known nonprofit dedicated to changing the perception of aging through the fulfillment of elders' dreams.

Who We Serve Through the Center of Excellence

For Caregivers

New caregivers complete a detailed orientation process at the Center, including hands-on skills training. Current team members receive ongoing specialized training to build their knowledge and confidence as they care for clients throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, and nearby communities.

For Families

The Center offers family caregivers the chance to experience and practice real-life care scenarios. Through workshops and support groups, families learn how to safely and confidently care for their loved ones while gaining a better understanding of various diagnoses.
